Matterhorn 4478m
Also referred to as the “Horn”, the Matterhorn is one of the most desired 4000m peaks to climb. When seen from the mountain village of Zermatt, it has a striking beauty and wild appearance.
Every summer, many climbers reach the top of the Matterhorn. Many fail due to insufficient preparation or bad weather.
Can I do it?
Yes…but it will take a lot of training and preparation. The skills you acquire on other alpine routes will be important to apply to the Matterhorn. To climb the Matterhorn, you must have a solid mountaineering background, be fit and have good stamina. You need to be good on your feet, skilled in the use of crampons and be able to climb up and down in mountaineering boots of grade 4.
When is the best time?
The summer season is the only one used to climb the Matterhorn. The summer months, July and August are the best. This is when the majority of the route is free of snow. It also clears quickly after a storm.
